
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Anthony “Tony” Iton is a physician, attorney, public health leader, and nationally recognized advocate for health equity. Over a career spanning more than 30 years, Dr. Iton has tackled systemic barriers to health and championed community-led solutions to address inequities.
At The California Endowment, he served as Senior Vice President for Healthy Communities, leading the landmark $1 billion, 10-year Building Healthy Communities initiative—one of the largest philanthropic efforts of its kind in the nation. His visionary leadership focused on empowering marginalized communities, shifting policy systems, and reimagining public health practices.
Previously, Dr. Iton served as Director and Health Officer for the Alameda County Public Health Department. There, he pioneered innovative strategies to address social determinants of health and co-authored research demonstrating how ZIP codes predict life expectancy more than genetic codes.
Dr. Iton holds an MD from Johns Hopkins University, a JD and MPH from UC Berkeley, and a BS in Neurophysiology from McGill University. He is a Lecturer of Health Policy and Management at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health and serves on the boards of national organizations focused on health equity, including the Public Health Institute and Prevention Institute.

Chief Administrative Officer
Amy Chan is the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of The Health Trust, where she plays a key role in shaping the organization’s strategic direction, strengthening stakeholder relationships, and overseeing initiatives that advance health equity through grantmaking and advocacy.
Most recently, Amy served as Interim Chief Executive Officer, leading The Health Trust through a year of transition as it redefined its role as a foundation. During her tenure, she guided the organization through critical decisions and supported the successful onboarding of its new CEO. She now returns to her role as CAO with expanded perspective and renewed focus, continuing to drive the organization’s impact during this pivotal time.
Originally from New York City, Amy holds a B.S. in Applied Economics and Business Management from Cornell University and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York. She began her career as an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers and held senior finance roles at JPMorgan Chase and Colgate-Palmolive. Before joining The Health Trust, she was the Chief Financial Officer at Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI), where she led the organization’s financial strategy.
Amy’s broad experience in finance and nonprofit leadership, combined with her deep commitment to community health, positions her to help guide The Health Trust’s evolution as a catalyst for equity and systems change.

Vice President of Strategy and Programs
Maria Garcia serves as Vice President of Strategy and Programs at The Health Trust. In this role, she leads the agency’s strategic planning and oversees the Grantmaking department, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and community needs. She communicates grantmaking priorities to the community, provides technical assistance to prospective applicants, and supports grantee partners in achieving their project goals.
Maria joined The Health Trust in February 2010 as Grants Administrator and has over 20 years of nonprofit experience, including managing direct services, board relations, community engagement, and fundraising. She holds a B.A. in Communication from Santa Clara University and an M.A. in Speech Communication from San Jose State University.

Director of Finance and Administration
Ngoc Ho is the Director of Finance and Administration at The Health Trust, where she oversees finance, financial planning, budgeting, and operations. She ensures resources are strategically allocated to support the organization’s mission of advancing health equity through grantmaking and advocacy. With 14 years of experience in grants and contracts management, coupled with her expertise in leading process innovation through data-driven decision-making, Ngoc excels in leveraging her skills to enhance The Health Trust’s operational impact and improve outcomes.
Ngoc’s career spans the corporate, small business, academia, and nonprofit sectors, giving her a diverse perspective on operational efficiency and strategic leadership. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from San Jose State University.
