Fifteen years ago, Subaru created the Share the Love Event as a way to help those who need it most. As one of four national charitable partners, Subaru will donate $250 to Meals on Wheels America, or the purchaser’s choice of participating charities, for every new vehicle purchased or leased from November 17, 2022, through January 3, 2023. Since 2008, Subaru and its participating retailers have donated nearly 4 million meals and friendly visits to seniors being served by local Meals on Wheels programs across the country, including The Health Trust.
Why does Subaru support Meals on Wheels? Seniors everywhere are struggling to stay independent and healthy. Today, the average life expectancy is at a record high of 79 years. As we age, even the most independent among us may experience physical declines or financial hardship that strips away our independence. Add to that an increase in geographic mobility of our families, and the result is millions of seniors left behind, hungry, and alone. Nearly 7.4 million seniors gave incomes below the poverty line. That’s an income of $240 a week or less, which, after housing, utility, and medical expenses, leaves very little for food. Half of the seniors living alone lack the financial resources to pay for basic needs.
This is why The Health Trust is dedicated to providing nutritious meals, friendly in-home visits, and safety checks for seniors and adults with disabilities in Santa Clara County. This vital support keeps older and homebound adults healthy and in their own homes, where they want to be. After skyrocketing during the height of the pandemic, demand for home-delivered meals remains about triple pre-pandemic levels. Last year, The Health Trust provided more than 275,000 meals and more than 49,000 wellness checks.
We are incredibly grateful to Subaru and its retailers for supporting our organization and the seniors we serve. With that in mind, we want to share more about the Subaru Share the Love Event and how it helps support your community.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS This November 17, 2022, through January 3, 2023, for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased, Subaru will donate $250 to the customer’s choice of participating charities.* Meals on Wheels is one of four national participating charities and has been since the inception of the event. About Meals on Wheels America Meals on Wheels has been guided by a single goal since the first known U.S. delivery by a small group of Philadelphia citizens in 1954 – to support our senior neighbors to extend their independence and health as they age. What started as a compassionate idea has grown into one of the largest and most effective social movements in America, currently helping over 2.4 million seniors annually in virtually every community in the country. By providing funding, leadership, education, research and advocacy support, Meals on Wheels America empowers its local member programs to strengthen their communities, one senior at a time.
