The Health Trust Receives Funds from Google for COVID Relief Efforts

Google has recently committed $1.2 million in grants towards Mountain View-serving organizations on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic and providing relief for small businesses. As part, The Health Trust received a $75,000 grant which will allow for the expansion of Meals on Wheels delivery services to vulnerable residents in the County of Santa Clara impacted by the crisis. Since the shelter in place order went into effect on March 17, The Health Trust has doubled its usual client number and more than quadrupled the number of weekly meals delivered, now standing at over 105,000 meals for the year.

“We are grateful for our neighbor so generously stepping up and offering to help our local communities during this crisis,” said Mountain View Mayor Margaret Abe-Koga. “Google’s $1.2 million contribution to various community-serving organizations and small businesses will provide much-needed relief for residents in need in the City of Mountain View and across our region.”

Due to the current public health crisis, the demand for services and local help has skyrocketed. In Santa Clara County, The Health Trust has seen a dramatic increase in the number of homebound and vulnerable people who need home-delivered meals, including people quarantined for COVID-19 exposure or infection, and homeless residents who are being temporarily housed.

“We thank Google for their confidence in our work and their commitment to community,” said Michele Lew, CEO of The Health Trust. “With these funds, we can continue to provide meals to our most vulnerable populations and expand our capacity to meet the increased demand for meal delivery and food access during this outbreak.”
