The Health Trust Announces $1.2 Million in Health Grants

The Health Trust has awarded nine Health Partnership grants totaling over $1.2M, and will directly benefit residents of Santa Clara and Northern San Benito Counties.

The Health Trust makes grants to nonprofit organizations and public agencies for projects that support our three initiatives: Healthy Eating, Healthy Aging and Healthy Living and that support our vision to make Silicon Valley healthier for everyone.

Healthy Eating Initiative: $602,694

AnewAmerica Community Corporation – will serve as the entrepreneurship and technical assistance partner for the Fresh Carts Mobile Produce Vendor Program.

Sacred Heart Community Services – will increase access and availability of fresh fruits and vegetables by advocating for policies to support the Fresh Carts Mobile Produce Vendor Program.

Fresh Approach – will increase access of fresh fruits and vegetables through Freshest Cargo– a farmers’ market on wheels.

The Food Trust – will oversee the Healthy Cornerstore Program, a Health Trust-led initiative that supports healthier options in neighborhood cornerstores.

Healthy Living Initiative: $647,985 

California Dental Association Foundation – will provide technical expertise, strategic advice and project management for the Santa Clara County Fluoridation Initiative.

Greenbelt Alliance – will ensure that the major review of San Jose’s General Plan Envision 2040 includes policies that promote health, including the increase of affordable housing.

Somos Mayfair – will study the feasibility of a peer educator (aka Promotor), job training and placement model that will systematize a new way of engaging peer educators in the nonprofit sector.

Public Health Institute – will support the Public Health Professional Development Program.
