Health Trust TV is a 12-episode series, about healthy living in Silicon Valley. We hope to inform our viewers about local health initiatives, and will provide an abundance of resources to help our viewers live healthier lives. Health Trust TV is produced by CreaTV San Jose.
Every 30 minute episodes kicks off with our hosts, Adam Morella and Paloma Cano, and is packed with intriguing and educational segments:

Health Trust TV will air on CreaTV Silicon Valley Channel 30, on Comcast Cable, every Wednesday at 7PM PST and Friday 8:30AM PST, starting June 4, 2014. A new episode will air the first Wednesday of every month. Once aired, all episodes, and related materials, can be found here on this site.

- Frederick J. Ferrer, M.S.
Creator and Executive Producer
Frederick J. Ferrer, a nationally recognized expert in child development and nonprofit leadership strategies and an active community leader in Silicon Valley for more than 30 years, was named Chief Executive Officer of The Health Trust in November, 2007.
Prior to joining The Health Trust, Ferrer headed his own national consulting firm, Manzanita Solutions, where he worked with nonprofit groups on visioning, nonprofit management policies and practices, and effective strategies working with families. Previously he served as Executive Director of Estrella Family Services in San Jose for 19 years, where he grew the organization from serving 74 children initially to multiple programs that touched the lives of more than 1,000 young children and their families every year. His expertise in child development and family support was put to good use in his volunteer positions as past chair and commissioner of the FIRST 5 Commission of Santa Clara County and as a current board member of Rocketship Charter Elementary Schools.
Ferrer’s community involvement has also spanned a wide range, including American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley where he is a member of Class XI and a former member of the Board. He was honored with the coveted John Gardner Leadership Award from ALF, PACT’S Community Builder Award, Gardner Health Center’s Silent Heroes in Health Care Award, Santa Clara County Human Relations Award and the Kindred Spirit Award from the Children’s Discovery Museum. He served on the board of United Way Silicon Valley and is a community advisor to the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
Ferrer holds a B.S. degree from Santa Clara University, an M.S. from San Jose State University and an honorary Doctorate of Public Service from Santa Clara University. He is also a graduate of the Performance Measurement for Effective Management of Nonprofit Organizations and Strategic Perspectives in Non-Profit Management Program at Harvard University. He was on the adjunct faculty at Santa Clara University’s Graduate School of Education for 11 years. He has been on the adjunct faculty at De Anza College for over 20 years.
- Viviana Leija-Sysak
Executive Producer and Video Editor
Viviana Leija-Sysak is a TV producer and visual artist born in Mexico City and currently living in the Bay Area. She holds a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of California in Santa Barbara (UCSB). Her artistic work has been exposed in many venues, mostly in Mexico and USA. She has worked on the TV industry directing, producing, hosting, editing and animating shows and spots for several TV stations and production companies. In 2006 she directed and hosted “Mejora Tu Vida” a KPMR show in Spanish to bring fresh information to the Latino population at the Central Coast. In 2007, she edited the award winner documentary “The Shaken Tree” at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival. Later in 2008 she produced, edited and hosted “Non-Profit Spotlight” a series show dedicated to broadcast the best non-profit organizations in the area of Santa Barbara, CA. She has also worked as graphic designer for several clients, including the Metropolitan Transit District in Santa Barbara.
- Adam Morrella
Adam Morrella is an Exercise Therapist / Kinesiologist who has been helping people reach their health and fitness goals since 2002. While completing his Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology, Adam worked as a personal trainer specializing in Corrective Exercise and Athletic Performance. In 2007, he moved into the field of Exercise Therapy, utilizing a fully integrative approach in rehabilitating people suffering from chronic pain and injury at a health center in Campbell, CA. Trained in holistic health, Adam blends philosophies from orthopedics, chiropractic, massage therapy, physical therapy, strength and conditioning, and associated disciplines when creating individualized health and fitness programs. His multidisciplinary approach allows him to locate the true source of his client’s pain/dysfunction. He is the founder of ADAMS (Adam’s Disciplined Approach to Movement Science) Academy, and is currently the Kinesiologist / Exercise Therapist for HealthstyleTM Integrative Medicine Center in Campbell, California. - Paloma Cano
Paloma Cano immigrated to the United States from Peru with her parents and older brother and sister at a young age and celebrated her first birthday on the plane. She grew up in the Bay Area, and resided for most of her life in Los Gatos, California. After receiving her bachelor’s degree, she wanted to move forward with higher education in the field of mental health so that she could help provide stability and support to individuals of need. While acting as a host for Health Trust TV, Paloma was enrolled in the Masters of Social Work program at San Jose State University, with a concentration in mental health, and graduated in the spring of 2014. Going forward, she plans to become a licensed clinical social worker in the state of California. In her spare time, Paloma like to play with her cats and three dogs, and enjoys hiking with her fiancé.
- Elena Blebea
Elena Blebea is the Supervisor of Silicon Valley HealthCorps, an AmeriCorps program managed by The Health Trust where AmeriCorps members are placed at 10 local organizations teaching garden-and farm-based nutrition education to high-need youth and families. Elena received her Master’s in Public Health from Columbia University and her Bachelor’s degree, with a major in Public Health and Hispanic Studies, from the University of Pennsylvania. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, traveling, hiking, and making gelato.
- Ryan Hughes
Ryan Hughes is one of the first two IFBB Men’s Physique Pros in the country. He is the creator of the “Blast Training System,” BodySpace Spokesmodel finalist, published fitness model, New York City Trainer and avid fitness enthusiast. Ryan began his journey into the fitness world at 15 years old, standing 6’0” tall but only weighing 125lbs. By age 19, he competed in his first body building competition in the lightweight class at 176lbs and 4% body fat, taking 1st in the Novice class and 3rd in the Men’s Open! Shortly thereafter, he became a certified personal trainer from one of the most highly accredited organizations, NASM. Since then, he has entered the world of IFBB’s Men’s Physique competition and fitness modeling. Ryan has booked jobs with Nike, the NY Jets, Oxygen Network, Exercise for Men magazine, Muscle Mag and Men’s Fitness magazine. Ryan is currently a full time fitness model/athlete and personal trainer working in NYC and is a sponsored BSN athlete. Dr. Jane Varner, M.D., is a family medicine practitioner with the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. She attended Eastern Virginia Medical School and performed her internship and residency at Medical College of Pennsylvania – Hahnemann University, PA. Her professional interests include, but are not limited to: adolescent health, cardiovascular disease, cholesterol management, depression, diabetes, menopause treatment, mind-body wellness, nutrition, obesity, and women’s health. Her philosophy of care is simple and straightforward. She believes that the doctor-patient relationship should be a partnership, with her role being that of an educator and coach. She strives to provide enough information so that her patients feel empowered to participate in making decisions about their care. Her goal is to provide a relaxed, comfortable environment, so that her patients look forward to their visits. During her free time, she enjoys running, swimming, gardening, and surfing.
