Supreme Court health care decision is good news for prevention efforts

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 28, 2012 – Health Trust CEO Frederick J. Ferrer reacted today to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision upholding the Affordable Care Act:

“With the actions of Supreme Court today, the Affordable Care Act will remain the law of the land. This Act goes a long way toward providing health care for all Americans.  In particular, it means that thousands of people in Santa Clara County, including The Health Trust’s clients, will be able to get health insurance even if they have chronic illnesses.

“But the ACA is not simply about health insurance. It also emphasizes prevention and health promotion as ways of reducing the costs of medical care. The Health Trust is excited to see the full implementation of the Law so we can focus on health, not just health care.  To make Silicon Valley the healthiest region in America, we have to address the underlying reasons why folks are getting sick in the first place so we can make everyone healthier.”
